All To Jesus

“All to Jesus, I surrender. All to Him I freely give.”

The opening lyrics of an old hymn were written
by Judson W. Van DeVenter (1896). In my
memory I hear the melody playing softly on a
piano during an invitation to come to the altar.
Maybe it was an invitation to surrender my life
and will to Jesus or at least to reconnect my life
to Him when I strayed.

Last year when reading through the gospels, I
began to notice what things were GIVEN TO
JESUS in the days leading to His passion. Some
gifts were tangible to meet a need: a donkey for
Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem or a room
to celebrate Passover. Some gifts were
devotional in nature: a woman anointing His feet
with perfume. And some were meant to cause
pain: grief from the religious leaders or Judas’
betrayal with a kiss.

In examination of our faith we can ask “What do I
give Jesus?” Sometimes I give grief and other
times I think He takes joy in my life. Sometimes I
give water, food and clothes to those in need
because I give to Jesus. He is the only One to
Whom I give worship. During this Lenten season,
let’s consider how we can GIVE IT ALL TO JESUS.

Blessings,
